Authorities have sent meat samples for forensic testing, while the investigation is ongoing
ROHTAS — A government school in Bihar’s Rohtas district has become the centre of tension after villagers alleged that beef was found on the premises, leading to the detention of five teachers as police launched a formal investigation.
The incident took place at the Upgraded Urdu Middle School, Ramdih, under the Rajpur block. According to local reports, villagers claimed that a quantity of suspected beef was recovered from inside a school storage area.
The situation escalated on Thursday when a group of villagers entered the school premises and searched the building. They alleged that beef was found stored in a cupboard inside the school and further claimed that it had been brought by some staff members.
Some villagers also alleged that food involving meat was being prepared and consumed within the school, and that, in some instances, students may have been given food. These claims have not been independently verified by authorities.
Following the discovery, a large number of locals gathered at the school, creating tension in the area.
After receiving information about the incident, senior district officials, including Rohtas District Magistrate Udita Singh and Superintendent of Police Roushan Kumar, reached the spot with a police team.
Five teachers, including two women staff members, were taken into custody for questioning.
SP Roushan Kumar said that the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has collected the samples of the meat for examination. He added, “The nature of the meat will be confirmed only after forensic testing.”
Officials have stated that it is not yet confirmed what type of animal the meat belongs to. The forensic report is expected to determine whether the allegations made by villagers are accurate.
The school administration, including the headmaster Afzal Ansari, has not yet issued a public statement regarding the incident.
The school reportedly has teachers from different communities and serves students from diverse religious backgrounds. Locals said the institution caters to children from all sections of society, which has added sensitivity to the matter.
Authorities have appealed for calm while the investigation continues. Police have said that no conclusion will be drawn until scientific reports are received.
