Tehran yet to respond to 15-point US plan as ceasefire prospects remain uncertain, media reports
Mediators said that Iran has not requested a pause in strikes on its energy facilities and has yet to provide a final response to a US proposal aimed at ending the conflict, media reports said on Thursday.
US President Donald Trump said earlier that strikes on Iran’s energy sector would be paused for 10 days until April 6, claiming the extension came at Iran’s request, according to the Wall Street Journal.
However, mediators said Iran had not made such a request, according to the outlet.
Iranian officials indicated interest in negotiations but said the country’s leadership has not yet made a final decision.
The US has presented a 15-point plan offering to lift sanctions in exchange for Iranian concessions.
The proposal includes conditions related to Iran’s nuclear program, missile activities and regional involvement.
Iranian officials have asked the US to scale back what they described as excessive demands.
They also rejected making discussions on missile programs a starting point and said they do not want to commit to ending uranium enrichment permanently.
Mediators said the likelihood of reaching a ceasefire remains low.
