BARMER – A disturbing video showing the brutal assault of an elderly Muslim man in Rajasthan’s Barmer district has gone viral, triggering public outrage and leading to the arrest of the main accused.
The incident took place on January 31 in Utarba village, near Heepura, under the Gadraroad police station area. The 36-second clip shows a young man, identified as Bhawanpuri (30), kicking 50-year-old Sheru Khan in the head with a shoe while the elderly man is sitting on the ground. The victim is seen trying to drink water when he is kicked and verbally abused before being forced out of his home.
Following the video’s circulation on social media, members of the Muslim community and other citizens expressed strong anger and demanded strict action. A social media user posted on Facebook, calling the act “not only a question mark on law and order but also a deeply shameful act that hurts our social sensitivities and humanity.”
The user added, “Such incidents break the mutual harmony, brotherhood, and trust in society and create an atmosphere of fear and insecurity.” The post urged the police administration to treat the matter with utmost seriousness and ensure strict legal action against the culprits.
Acting on the victim’s complaint, the Gadraroad police promptly registered a case and arrested the main accused, Bhawanpuri. “We have taken immediate cognisance and arrested the accused. The investigation is ongoing,” a police officer from Gadraroad station stated.
While the police response has been swift in this instance, the viral nature of the assault has highlighted concerns over public safety and the need for consistent application of the law to prevent such acts of violence. The case continues to be under investigation as authorities work to address the community’s demand for justice.
