3 strikes hit northern occupied West Bank

GAZA — Five Palestinians were killed and three others injured Saturday in three Israeli airstrikes targeting Jenin in the northern occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society announced that its teams transported “two martyrs and one injured person from the eastern neighborhood to the hospital following an Israeli strike on the area.”

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Ministry of Health reported “two martyrs due to an Israeli strike on a vehicle in Qabatiya.”

According to the official Palestinian news agency, Wafa, “Israeli occupation forces targeted a vehicle in the town of Qabatiya, south of Jenin.”

“An Israeli drone struck a vehicle on a main street in the center of the town, injuring several civilians,” it added.

Palestine TV published footage of a burned-out vehicle that had been targeted in the attack

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in a statement earlier that its teams “transported to the hospital a martyr (14 years old) and two injured individuals following an Israeli strike in the eastern neighborhood of Jenin.”

Wafa said that “a drone strike targeted a group of civilians near the Saadi Diwan in the eastern neighborhood of Jenin, resulting in the child’s death.”

Meanwhile, Palestine TV said the “Israeli occupation forces stormed the eastern neighborhood of Jenin following the airstrike on the area.

On Jan. 21, the Israeli army launched a military assault on Jenin city, its refugee camp, and other towns in the province, killing 20 Palestinians as of Saturday evening. The offensive was later expanded to include the city of Tulkarm, where three Palestinians were killed.

The escalation in the West Bank came after a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal took hold in Gaza on Jan. 19, following 15 months of Israel’s genocidal war that killed over 47,400 and reduced the enclave to rubble.

Since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023, more than 900 Palestinians have been killed across the occupied territory in attacks by Israeli forces and settlers. — AA
