NEW DELHI — The videos of Thursday evening vandalisation of the national capital residence of Asaduddin Owaisi, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and Lok Sabha member from Hyderabad, point towards the role of Hindutva supporters in the incident.
The videos prove that “the unknown miscreants” alluded to by Owaisi in his post on X platform are Hindutva supporters who are known for their hate speeches and criminal activities.
A video shows a man pasting a poster on the nameplate of AIMIM chief’s residence. The poster reads “Bharat Mata Ki Jai… Disqualify Asaduddin Owaisi from Parliament…I Stand with Israel”.
After pasting the poster, the man said everyone should do the same. “No MLA, MLC, Parshad should be in India who don’t say ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. Strict action should be taken against him,” the man could be heard as saying in the video.
This individual has been identified by fact-checker Mohammed Zubair as Vijay Hindu. In the past, Vijay also made hate speeches against Muslims while talking to a YouTuber. He had also incited violence against Muslims and was also involved in the 2020 anti-Muslim riots in northeast Delhi.
“Don’t tell me @DelhiPolice don’t know about “Vijay Hindu and Vinod Sharma”. Their only job is to give hate speeches against Muslim on YouTube vox pop channels. You’ll see them featured in several such propaganda YouTube channels. They were also involved in the Delhi riots,” posted Zubair while sharing some videos of Vijay making hate speeches.
Another attacker was identified as Vinod Sharma or Azad. He announced his plan to vandalise Owaisi’s residence on Facebook hours ago. He has also photos with BJP leaders including Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, BJP MLA T. Raja Singh, Tamil Nadu BJP chief Annamalai and others. In 2022, Sharma was arrested for making hate speeches against Muslims at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
In a video, the man accused Owaisi of hating Hindus, supporting Ghazwa-e-Hind and slavery of Turkey. He also questioned the BJP MPs for not opposing and slapping Owaisi when he said ‘Jai Palestine’ during this week’s oath-taking ceremony in the parliament.
Journalist Alishan Jafri said: “They’re not random men angered by ‘Jai Palestine’. One of them was arrested in the Jantar Mantar hate speech case where the “m*lle kaate jaayenge” slogans were raised. He’s close to BJP leaders and hate-monger anchor (Suresh) Chavhanke. Another fellow regularly features in viral RW vox pop videos. They regularly attack common Muslims. Delhi police must deal with them with an iron hand”.
In another post, Jafri pointed out that “One of the attackers involved in vandalising @asadowaisi’s home was also a part of the extremist mob that attacked farmers in January 2021. He was presented as a local from the Singhu border by the right wing-media”.
In a statement on Friday, Owaisi said his residence has been attacked several times. “Sometimes it happens,” has been the refrain of the police when complaints were lodged, Owaisi said.
“It has not happened for the first time. Things like this are happening because the Narendra Modi govt and the PM himself have radicalised such people. When the PM himself says that Muslims are infiltrators and identify them by their attires, it gives courage to such people. They put the flag of Israel on my home which shows these people believe in Zionist ideology, an ideology that killed 40,000 people and left 12 lakh people homeless in Gaza,” Owaisi told mediapersons on Friday.
