NEW DELHI — All India Muslim Ittihadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Lok Sabha member from Hyderabad, Asaduddin Owaisi, on Tuesday said the threat issued to Muslims by Hindutva outfits in Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand is an effort to invisibilise them.
“The real agenda is to invisibilise Muslims, make them second-class citizens. Purola: BJP betrays Pasmanda Muslims,” tweeted Owaisi.
He said several families from the minority community have been forced to flee Purola town fearing violence by the right-wing forces, media reports said.
Recently, ‘X’ marks have been drawn on Muslims’ houses in Purola asking them to leave the locality.
In another tweet, Owaisi demanded a ban on the proposed mahapanchayat by right-wing groups in Uttarakhand on June 15. “Security should be provided to the people living there. Arrangements should be made to bring back the people who have migrated from there.
“It is the BJP government’s responsibility to send the culprits to jail and restore peace,” he tweeted in Hindi.
According to reports, trouble started on May 26 after two men allegedly tried to abduct a 14-year-old girl. Some people alleged that it was a case of ‘Love Jihad’. Though the accused were arrested, some right-wing groups staged protests and attacked the shops and houses of several Muslims.
Earlier, addressing a ‘meet and greet’ programme organised by the overseas friends of AIMIM in Addison, Illinois of Chicago in the US on Monday, Owaisi said he does not want genocide to take place in his country. “What’s happening in India now, happened in Germany in the 1930s. Hitler in his time got films made against the Jews and films like ‘The Kashmir Files’ and ‘The Kerala Story’ against Muslims have been released in India,” he said.
He said due to marginalisation of Muslims in India, “the AIMIM is trying to build a political voice of minorities and downtrodden.”
During a question and answer session, he said the party will disclose its plans on the number of assembly seats it will contest at the time of elections.
