UP’s 311 Sitting MLAs Almost Double Their Wealth In Last Five Years

NEW DELHI — In India, politics has become a ladder for scaling to richness as an analysis of the affidavits of 311 sitting MLAs contesting again for the ongoing Assembly Elections in Uttar Pradesh, where the last and final phase of polling is underway today,   reveals that their average assets has increased by Rs. 2.84 crores which is 82 percent during the last five year.

The study was done by the  Uttar Pradesh Election Watch (UPEW) and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) says the average assets of these 311 re-contesting MLAs from various parties in 2012 was Rs 3.49 crores (Rs3,49,08,073). Now they declared their average assets is Rs 6.33 crores (Rs6,33,64,781).

 It says the average assets of these 311 re- contesting MLAs, between the Uttar Pradesh Elections of 2012 and 2017 has increased by Rs. 2.84 crores (Rs. 2,84,56,709).

The average percentage increase in assets for these 311 re-contesting MLAs is 82 percent during this period.

Ruling Samajwadi Party’s sitting MLA from Maholi (Sitapur district) Anup Kumar Gupta’s assets witnessed the highest growth.  His assets increased by a whopping Rs. 35 crores which was Rs 35, 34, 40,262 in 2012 assembly elections. Now it stands Rs. 42, 07, 84,842 which is a phenomenal increase of 525 percent. Shah Alam Urf Guddu Jamali, a BSP MLA from Mubarakpur in Azamgarh has doubled his wealth during this period as his average assets stand more than Rs. 118 Crore which was Rs. 54 Crore in 2012. His assets increased by more than Rs 64 crore.

According to the analysis of the affidavits of these MLAs, party wise ruling SP’s 162 MLAs have increased their assets by at least Rs 2 crore which is 99 percent, while growth of BSP’s 57 MLAs assets is 92 percent that is Rs. 4 crore and BJP’s 55 MLAs  were  also not lagged behind as they  increased their assets by Rs. 2 crore.
