The Economic Offences Wing probes Rs 30-crore irregularities in minority education funds in Hathras; further raids and checks on bank accounts and institutional records continue
HATHRAS – The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kanpur Sector in Uttar Pradesh has arrested two key officials of Madrasa Muhammad Sahib Islamia Faukaniya in connection with the Hathras pre-matric minority scholarship scam. Manager Dharam Veer Singh and Treasurer Sarvesh Pachauri were taken into custody on Thursday (13 November) during an operation in their Sahababad area residences.
The investigation in irregularities in scholarship disbursal revealed discrepancies amounting to approximately Rs 29.92 crore for the financial years 2011-12 and 2012-13. The investigation involves 62 educational institutions and madrasas which were initially probed at Mursan police station before being transferred to EOW Kanpur.
According to EOW officials, the manager and treasurer are accused of manipulating student lists and institutional records to unlawfully obtain scholarship funds. “Both were responsible for preparing the documents and student lists that formed the basis for issuing the scholarships,” said an EOW investigator.
During the arrest operation, the investigation team seized crucial documents and institutional records, which are expected to be central to further proceedings. “The process of examining scholarship records, bank accounts, and institutional documents is in the final stages,” the official added.
Raids are ongoing at various locations to locate other individuals named in the case. The EOW has confirmed that further arrests will continue until all accused are brought before the court. Statements of additional persons involved are being recorded as the investigation progresses.
“This is a significant step in ensuring accountability in the management of minority education funds,” an official said. “Our team is committed to completing a thorough investigation and bringing all responsible parties to justice.”
The Hathras pre-matric scholarship scam has drawn attention to systemic irregularities in the allocation of minority education funds, raising calls for stricter oversight and transparency in scholarship disbursal processes across the state.
