UP Police Freeze Rs 9 Lakh in the Bank Account of Mukhtar Ansari’s Wife Afsha

Date:

She has been declared absconding for almost three years after failing to appear in court for several cases filed against her

LUCKNOW — The troubles of Afsha Ansari, wife of the late former MLA Mukhtar Ansari, have increased as Uttar Pradesh Police have frozen her bank account containing nearly nine lakh rupees.

Afsha Ansari has been declared absconding since 2022 after failing to appear in court for several cases filed against her. This year, the UP administration also placed a reward of Rs 50,000 for her capture.

On Monday (16 June), the police confirmed that Afsha’s State Bank of India (SBI) account in Lucknow, which holds Rs 8,91,268, has been frozen. Senior Police Officer Dr Iraj Raja said, “After getting information about Afsha’s account, we immediately coordinated with the bank and froze the account as per the rules. Further legal action is underway.”

Several serious cases are registered against Afsha Ansari in Ghazipur Kotwali, including charges under the Gangster Act, fraud, forgery, cheating, and criminal conspiracy.

The police action is part of a special campaign ordered by the Uttar Pradesh government. Dr Iraj Raja added, “This step is part of the government’s ongoing campaign to corner criminals like Afsha Ansari.”

Afsha Ansari has been on the run for almost three years, and the freezing of her bank account is expected to be a major setback for her.

This new move shows that the authorities are committed to taking strong action against those accused of serious crimes, even if they remain out of reach.
