BULANDSHAHR – A 23-year-old Muslim man was allegedly tied to a tree and forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ while a group of men thrashed him in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district.

The man’s head was tonsured as the group of men suspected him to be thief.

Two persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The incident was said to have taken place under the Kakod police station limits of the district on June 13, and a video clip of the incident surfaced on social media on Saturday.

Taking note of the video, the police accepted a complaint from the man’s father and assured him of strict action against the accused.

According to the media reports, the victim, identified as Sahil, was standing at a bus stand when three young men came, forced him to sit on their bike, and took him to a secluded area.

“They then started asking him questions about a mobile theft, which Sahil said he was oblivious to. The accused then tied him to a tree, beat him up, shaved his head, and forced him to chant Jai Shri Ram,” the report in India Today said.

When the victim reached out to the police, they refused to take action and arrested him instead, the report said.

Later, the victim’s parents approached the ASP SN Tiwari with their complaint after which the police launched an inquiry and arrested the suspects, the report added. (With media inputs)
