NEW DELHI — Members of a Hindutva outfit, Hindu Yodha Parivar Sangathan, created a ruckus over a fake case of cow slaughter in Uttar Pradesh’s city of Saharanpur on Tuesday.
It has emerged that Chaudhry Vish Singh Kamboj, a prominent leader of the Hindu organisation, staged a paid protest at the behest of one of his friends, Tipu Qureshi, who wanted to implicate one of his rivals in the case.
On Tuesday, cops from the Sarsawa police station arrested Kamboj on charges of creating religious animosity, misbehaving with police officials and blocking the highway, reports reaching here said on Thursday. Attempts by Clarion India to elicit comments on the case from Sarsawa police station over the phone failed as an official refused to share any information.
However, a police statement says that Kamboj had taken Rs 50,000 from his friend Tipu to hold a protest alleging cow slaughter to implicate someone else.
“On 11.03.2025, Vish Singh Kamboj alias Saki son of Jaswant Singh Kamboj resident of H. No. 5/27/65 Radha Gopal Nagar Numaish Camp Police Station Kotwali Nagar District Saharanpur was arrested for blocking the highway along with his companions by placing skeletons of heads of 04 old dead animals near Ambala Highway Bonsa culvert and misbehaving with the police and spreading animosity among the public,” said the police in a statement.
According to the police, Kamboj staged the protest and blocked the highway to spread enmity between different religious groups and castes. Sticks and skeletons of heads of animals were recovered from his possession at the time of his arrest on Tuesday afternoon. An FIR under various sections has been registered against him.
During questioning Kamboj allegedly told the police that the four skeletons were provided to him by his friend Tipu, a resident of Saharanpur, who wanted them to be put on the highway in Sarsawa area and create tension by raising slogans against members of a particular community. The plan was that Tipu would later appear at the protest site and name the person responsible for the cow slaughter. In return, Tipu offered any amount asked for by Kamboj to accomplish this frivolous task.
“Tipu Qureshi had given me 50 thousand rupees eight days ago as a present, which I have spent. I have done all this on his bidding. Yes, I know that the protest organised by me could have sparked a huge Hindu-Muslim riot and the police would also have suffered a lot. This is my mistake, I accept it,” Kamboj was quoted by the police as saying.
Kamboj’s profile on his Facebook page mentions his association with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
A video related to the blocking of the highway by Kamboj and his group has also surfaced on social media. It shows a shouting match between the Hindutva leader and a police officer at the spot when the latter questioned him over the blocking of the highway. Calling the protest “planted” and “hooliganism”, the police officer asked the Hindutva leader to stop shouting at him.
As the cop pointed out that the protest was a conspiracy, Hindutva men started shouting “Har Har Mahadev’ slogans.
