AMROHA (UTTAR PRADESH) — Outraged over the lathi-charge by Delhi Police on thousands of farmers at UP-Delhi border last week, farmers in several villages of Amroha district in Uttar Pradesh have chosen a different way of protest. They have put up big signboards outside the villages warning BJP leaders to enter the village at their “own risk”. Some photos of farmers standing alongside the boards are being circulated on social media.

“Kisan Ekta Zindabad. BJP waalo ka is gaon me aana sakht mana hai. Jaan maal ki raksha swayam karen. Kisan Ekta Zindabad (Long Live Farmers’ Unity. People from the BJP are strictly not allowed in this village. You are responsible for safety of your life and belongings. Long Live Farmers’ Unity),” the message on the board reads.

The farmers have put up such boards at the entrance of several villages including Chhajjpur Mafi, Rasoolpur Mafi and Bakharpur Mafi.

On 2nd October, thousands of agitating farmers, protesting against the BJP government in the center as well as in the state marched towards the national capital but heavy police force was deployed to stop them at the Uttar Pradesh-Delhi border.

Eventually the protest turned violent as clashes between the police and the farmers erupted when farmers tried to break barricades, in which police heavily lathi-charged on them leaving hundreds of farmers injured. Police also used water cannons to disperse the farmers.

Farmers led by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) marched towards Delhi over various demands ranging from farm loan waiver, reduction in electricity tariff, clearing of dues by sugar mills to higher prices for crops among others.

Earlier in April this year, a residential colony in Allahabad had banned the entry of BJP politicians when Yogi Aditayanath government showed a lax attitude to take action against its own MLA Kuldip Singh Sengar, accused of raping a minor in Unnao district and also for BJP’s inaction against its two MLAs who had openly supported the brutal rape and murder of an eight-year-old child in Kathua district of Jammu.
