ALIGARH – Chandrasekhar Azad, member of Parliament from Nagina Constituency and National President of the Azad Samaj Party, met with the family members of Muhammad Farid alias Aurangzeb, who was a victim of mob lynching in Aligarh.
On June 18, the second day of Eid-ul-Adha, Aurangzeb was beaten to death by a mob on allegations of theft.
Addressing the press and family members, Azad stated, “The killing of Aurangzeb was a conspiracy.” He criticised the handling of the case, questioning why Aurangzeb was not handed over to the police if he was indeed guilty of theft. “Eleven days after the murder, a case was registered against Aurangzeb and other individuals who were not even present at the scene,” he added, highlighting the apparent injustice and pressure exerted on the police administration.
Azad expressed his frustration with the current state of law enforcement in Uttar Pradesh, stating, “The pressure being put on the police administration to save the real accused is condemnable. Law and order in Uttar Pradesh have died at the threshold of power.”
He drew attention towards a viral video of the lynching, in which the accused was clearly visible. However, five named individuals remain at large as the police have failed to arrest them.
Despite the gravity of the situation, the police have controversially registered a case against the victim, further exacerbating the family’s grief and the community’s outrage. “If Aurangzeb does not get justice, then I will raise my voice in Parliament,” Azad promised. “And if we are not heard there, we will soon meet the chief minister and top police officers in Lucknow.”
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation and raised concerns about the safety and rights of minorities in the region. As the investigation continues, the demand for justice and accountability grows louder, with leaders like Azad standing in solidarity with the victims’ families and advocating for a fair and thorough examination of the case.
In an emotional encounter with Aurangzeb’s family, Azad reassured them that they would not be alone in their fight for justice. “We will ensure that those responsible are brought to justice,” he affirmed, calling for an end to the culture of impunity that has allowed such incidents to occur.
