UP ATS Arrests Another Aide to Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui from Amroha

NEW DELHI — The UP Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Thursday arrested one more person in connection with alleged religious conversions.

The accused, Sarfaraz Ali Zafri, was arrested from Amroha district. According to a press release issued by ATS, Zafri was working with Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui and was involved in “illegal religious conversions since 2016”.

IG, ATS, G.K. Goswamy said that they got to know about him during the questioning of Maulana Kaleem who was arrested on September 22. Later, on September 26, three of his associates Idris Qureshi, Saleem and Kunal Ashok were also arrested. One Dheeraj Jagtap a.k.a Dheeraj Deshmukh was arrested from Kanpur on October 1.

“Zafri used to work at the Global Peace Centre of Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui, who was arrested earlier. He was also a member of Revert, Rehab, and Dawa WhatsApp Group,” he said. Goswami charged that its members were using the group to “spread religious hatred, induce people to adopt Islam by giving various kinds of inducements.”

Earlier in June, the ATS had arrested Maulana Umar Gautam and his associate Mufti Kazi Jahangir Qasmi.
