NEW DELHI — Reports of mass migration by Hindus from a locality in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad city are being shared on social media. They claim that some Hindu families have put up posters outside their homes declaring that they plan to leave the Lajpat Nagar colony because Muslims are troubling them. Though the local police have debunked the reports, vested interest are busy doing overtime.

A report by Manish Yadav in TV9Hindi channel claims that 81 families have decided to migrate from the colony because Muslims have made their lives difficult. They are allegedly hatching a conspiracy to drive them away from there by throwing animal flesh and waste.
A Hindi news website upcitynews.com also made similar claims. Both of these reports made such sensitive claims without citing any source.

Similar claims have also been made on social media.

“81 families from Lajpat Nagar Moradabad Uttar Pradesh have put this banner outside their homes & are planning to leave the place. The peaceful community of the area are cutting animals in front of their homes. It is a design by goons so that Hindu families leave their homes,” claimed Sameet Thakkar, who has around 80,000 followers on Twitter.

However, the local police called these reports ‘false information’. Talking to Clarion India, SHO of Katghar police station said that there is no such thing in this incident as being reported by some news outlets. They are spreading false information.

“Poster of migration has been put up to oppose the decision of two residents who sold their houses without the permission of colony authorities,” said the SHO.

He further said that they are investigating the sale of the houses. They don’t have information about it. He also informed that the police will put out correct information into the public domain to quell the misinformation being spread by some media houses.

The SHO did not divulge further information about the incident to this correspondent. But there are reports which also point to false claims made in the above reports.

According to Dainik Jagran, the residents of the colony have put up the posters of migration because two residents sold their houses to Muslims. The Hindi daily report says that talks of selling those houses were going on for quite some time. Some local people of the colony wanted to buy them. But the owner was demanding a higher price. Hence, the local people could not buy the house. But, people from another community bought the house by giving full price as per their demand. This angered the residents of the colony. They held a meeting at the temple and decided to put up the poster of mass exodus.

The posters caused a commotion in the area. The administration reached the spot and talked to locals. The locals demanded the suspension of the sale. The administration did not do this at that time. The district magistrate called the incident a house-related dispute.
The claims of Hindu exodus have been made earlier too in UP itself. In 2016, it was claimed that Muslims are forcing Hindus to migrate from their areas in Uttar Pradesh’s Kairana.

Then BJP MP Hukum Sing from Kairana even issued a list of migrated Hindus from the area. However, an investigation by the administration had found that these people migrated from their areas due to lack of jobs, education and health care.
