DUBAI, Dec 23 – UAE residents woke up to a pleasant surprise on Monday morning as moderate to heavy rain lashed various parts of the country and temperatures dramatically plunged.

A weather bulletin from the National Center of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) forecast cloudy weather on Monday morning, with scattered rains, especially over the northern and the eastern areas of the country.

According to the NCMS, the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy in general, especially over the western, coastal, northern areas and the islands, with a chance of some occasional rainfall from time to time.

Fresh winds becoming strong at times over the sea, especially in case of cloud activity, and causing blowing dust/sand with poor visibility at times over the exposed areas.  Sea will be moderate in general but may turn rough at times.

The UAE’s National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has said this “unstable weather” will also result in rough seas over the next 48 hours, with warnings issued to fishermen and beachgoers for the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

A spokesperson for the NCMS said: “We will witness an unstable weather pattern over the next 48 hours along the northern and the coastal region of the UAE, due to the low pressure in the upper atmosphere, which will bring in the cold snap in parts.”

“The temperatures in the mountains could dip as low as 4-5 degrees Celsius, especially the Ras Al Khaimah mountain range, with Jebel Jais standing at 1,500 meters.

Meanwhile, a chill is in the air as the cold snap continues across parts of the UAE, with temperatures dipping as low as 4 degree Celsius today while the wet weather will cast gloomy skies over the next two days.

Meanwhile residents and motorists have been warned to be attentive and cautious as weather conditions may cause a drop in visibility and roads may become slippery.
