NEW DELHI — A Delhi court adjourned the hearing in bail plea of anti-CAA activist Umar Khalid to August 7 in Delhi riots conspiracy case.

Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat decided to adjourn the hearing at the request of advocate Trideep Pias who is representing Khalid in the case. He told the court that he received the prosecutor’s reply late. “My instructing counsel received the reply sometime late in the night. I received it in the morning. Can it be taken on some other day?” Pais said, according to Live Law.

The judge then adjourned the hearing after confirming about delay from the public prosecutor.

The Delhi Police, meanwhile, told the court that the bail application of Khalid does not have any merits, reports Indian Express.

The Additional DCP Alok Kumar (Special Cell), told the court that further investigation into the case was underway. He said in a written response: “The prosecution would demonstrate the ‘Prima facie’ case against the applicant by reference to and relying upon the charge sheet filed before this court.”

The police response also added that Delhi High Court’s judgments granting bail to Natasha Narwal, Asif Iqbal Tanha and Devangna Kalita cannot be relied upon in this case unless the Supreme Court decides on the three Special Leave Petitions filed by police against the bail granted to the three student activists.

The Delhi riots conspiracy FIR against nearly 20 anti-CAA activists invokes several sections of the stringent anti-terror law called the UAPA.
