UAE Ranks First in World with 89% of Population Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19

ABU DHABI — The UAE ranked first in the world with 89 per cent of its population fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the New York Times’ vaccine index, surpassing countries such as Portugal, Denmark, United States, Germany, United Kingdom, Norway, Australia and Japan.

Some 89 per cent of the UAE population had received two doses of the vaccine and up to 21.3 million does had been distributed so far, according to the index, reports Gulf Today.

The UAE was able to reach this advanced rank regionally and globally thanks to the decisive and rapid measures it had taken since the outbreak of the pandemic.

The UAE dealt with the virus more effectively and was one of the top countries in the world to launch a national campaign for vaccination and distribution of vaccines.

Over 4.02 billion people from all over the world received a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, which is equivalent to nearly 52.3 per cent of the world’s population, the New York Times said.

Portugal ranked second in the world as 87 per cent of its population received the vaccine, followed by Malta at 85 per cent, Singapore at 82 per cent, Chile at 81 per cent and Cambodia at 80 per cent.
