Twitter Users Celebrate Tipu Sultan’s Legacy on His Birth Anniversary

NEW DELHI — Twitter users on Wednesday paid rich tributes to Tipu Sultan on his birth anniversary, with many posting the quotes of the king of the erstwhile kingdom of Mysore.

The users also posted pictures of his prized possessions with hashtags Tipusultan, SherEHindTipuSultan, TipuJayanti, and TigerOfMysore.

As many as 3,143 tweets were posted by Twitterati on Tipu Sultan.

Tipu Sultan was born on November 20, 1750, and died on May 4, 1799.

The right-wing troll farms have launched concerted online campaigns demonising Tipu Sultan.

Reports have emerged recently that the right-wing government may remove lessons that highlight contributions of Tipu Sultan from school syllabus in the southern state Karnataka. In South India, Sultan is a highly revered historical figure and the respect for him cuts across the religious divide.
