Truth of Custodial Torture out, Owaisi Demands Arrest of Erring UP Cops

NEW DELHI – After reports brought out the truth about the viral of clip on custodial torture of protesters, All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslameen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi demanded arrest of the erring police officials by the Uttar Pradesh government.

In the wake of massive protests against BJP’s leaders’ derogatory remarks on Prophet Muhammed, the Uttar Pradesh police launched a brutal crackdown against the protestors. BJP MLA Shalab Tripathi shared a video of the Muslim youths being brutally beaten up by police personnel on Twitter and captioned it with a celebratory remark “return gift”.


NDTV probed the video and identified the victims of the custodial torture. When the reporter approached Saharanpur SSP Akash Tomar, he denied that the video was from Saharanpur. Now the probe has confirmed that it is indeed from Saharanpur.

In the video, one of the youths is pleading with the police officials, who were raining lathi blows on them, to spare him as his hand was broken. He is Mohammed Ali, a resident of Shaharanpur’s Peer gali. His mother recognised him in the video of the police brutality. She confirmed that he is badly injured with his hand swollen too much. He is constantly crying in pain. Ali has been pleading with his mother to help him come out of the prison as the jail authorities were abusing him. He did not have food for three days.

Another victim, Mohammed Saif, is also a resident of Shaharanapur. He works as a labourer to earn his livelihood. Zeba, sister of Saif, said he was beaten up so badly that he is not able to stand up on his feet. His hand was also swollen. He was bitten by honey bees in the toilet. He was not given proper treatment.

Yet another victim has been identified as Mohammed Tareef. His brother Tauheed confirmed that he was brutally beaten up in police custody. His knees were soaked with blood. Rahat Ali was beaten up the most by the police.


Recounting the ordeal before the Mojo Story reporter, mother of Imran, a victim of the police beating, said his son, who lives in Kerala, had come home to get married. The police picked him up from the market. Family members of the victims of the custodial torture broke down before the camera and narrated their horror stories.

When the reporter approached SP city Rajesh Kumar to ask him about the video, he straight away denied having any knowledge about any such video. Kumar gave similar replies to the Mojo Story reporter.

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad MP, Owaisi called on the state government and Saharanpur SSP Akash Tomar to take action against the erring police officials.


“Perhaps, you have forgotten that custodial torture is a crime. Why are you getting late in taking actions against the guilty officers,” asked Owaisi.
