NEW DELHI — Maulana Mahmood Asa’d Madani, President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, on Tuesday condemned the recent incident where a constable mercilessly killed his senior and three innocent Muslims. This tragic event is a stark reminder of the alarming rise of fascism and genocidal tendencies that pose a significant threat to the principles of humanity and justice, he said.

In a letter the Union Home Minister, Maulana Madani drew his attention to the severity of the incident, emphasising that it was not an isolated action but a continuation of a hate campaign that has been perpetuated for years. He highlighted the involvement of ruling party leaders, chief ministers, important ministers of the Union government, and the collusion of TV media in sowing seeds of hatred in the country, leading to the suffering of innocent people.

Maulana Madani pointed out the alarming situation where some individuals openly propagate violence against Muslims in Dharam Sansads with impunity. These people consider themselves above the law as no concrete action is taken against them, he said.

Expressing grief and pain, Maulana Madani appealed to the Home Minister to critically assess the prevailing atmosphere of hatred in the country and rise above political interests. He urged the Home Minister to prioritise the service of rashtra (nation) as the first responsibility and take strict preventive action against those inciting violence.

In a separate letter to the Minister of Railways, Maulana Madani pointed out that millions of people in the country travel daily via railways, and the railways have an important responsibility to protect their lives and property. “However, it is unfortunate that the railways’ guard is influenced by the poisonous atmosphere of hatred, leading to shameful incidents like the killing of innocent passengers. The alleged involvement of a law enforcement officer in perpetrating this act of terror is a grave violation of public trust,” the letter said and urged the railways to have free, transparent, and expeditious investigations to deliver justice and fair compensation to the deceased.

Maulana Madani called upon political leaders to use their platforms responsibly and refrain from propagating hate or divisive ideologies that breed violence and animosity. “The exploitation of religious sentiments for political gains is not only morally reprehensible but also undermines the very foundation of our democratic and diverse society,” he said.

He also urged civil society organisations, religious leaders, human rights activists, and the media to work together in creating awareness about the dangers of hate campaigns and to promote dialogue and peaceful coexistence among different communities.
