HYDERABAD – Muhammed Sufiyan Ali received a call from Muhammed Aijaz in the dead of night on 29th July at 1.30 that 2 youths had met with a road accident and were lying on the road unattended.

So Sufiyan and Aijaz, a social worker, and a few friends rushed to the spot and saw two youths who were driving a motor bike had hit the road divider and fell. They had received severe injuries and multiple fractures and blood all around.

“They were totally helpless. I dialled 108 the number for ambulance services but there was no response. I kept calling others to know if they could arrange for an ambulance. After sometime, I got the information that there is an ambulance on the way to Mahabubnagar from Jadcherla which is 18 km from our town. But there was no time to wait for this ambulance because one boy was critically injured. Aijaz and I were looking for auto rickshaws or cars to take both to the hospital”, said Sufiyan Ali, State secretary of Students Islamic Organsiation of India (SIO) to Clarion India.

They frantically looked for some conveyance but none was available. They found a push cart nearby and wasted no time to carry onto the cart and pushed the cart all the way to the Government Hospital.

But at the hospital there were no staff to take the injured to the casualty ward. Then, Sufiyan and his friends did the needful.
The doctors immediately started the treatment. The boys were in bad condition as they had lost a lots of blood but they were brought in time which saved their lives.

“We tried to reach out to the kith and kin of these youths but their phones were locked and they were not in a position to talk. However, there was a call over the phones belonging to one of them and I informed them about the accident” said Sufiyan.

But when the relative came to the hospital, he was too nervous and anxious to talk to anyone and immediately rushed inside the hospital. And due to the COVID rules, more than one person cannot attend the patient.

Sufiyan and his friends thought it was unwise to trouble him with any details. When they went in the morning to follow up, both the youth were shifted by their families to private nursing homes.

However, Sufiyan and his friends are happy that they were able to save their lives. Sufiyan said Islam teaches that saving even one life is equal to saving the entire humanity. It is stated in the Holy Quran: “whoever saves the life of one human being, it shall be as if he had saved the whole of humankind…”

Islamic teachings prompted Sufiyan and his friends to do the needful during times when people have no time to tend to others and when people are so divided in the name of religion they have forgotten to be human.

This comes across as a rare and unselfish gesture where young boys go out in the middle of the night to help strangers with no second thought. It is such incidents that keep reviving the humanistic belief in all others and what makes the world a liveable place.

Sufiyan released a video requesting the local legislator Srinivas Goud, Chief Minister and all others ministers of Telangana state and other district officials to ensure better facilities in the hospitals with sufficient staff and also round the clock availability of ambulance services.
