PUNE — Mumbai Police claim to have made significant progress in the investigation of the Baba Siddique murder case by arresting three more individuals from Pune. This brings the total number of arrests to 14 in connection with the fatal October 14 attack on the former Maharashtra minister.
According to a Mumbai Crime Branch officer, the newly arrested suspects revealed during interrogation that the shooters gathered crucial information through social media, conducting surveillance days before the attack.
The police also uncovered that the shooters had practiced firing in the forest areas along Karjat Khopoli Road, specifically near Plasdari village. The exercise was conducted to sharpen their aim, with the accused targeting trees during their practice sessions. “The shooters ensured they were prepared before carrying out the attack,” a police officer mentioned.
Weapons Sourced from Rajasthan
Further investigation by the Mumbai Crime Branch revealed that the weapons used in the murder were brought from Udaipur, Rajasthan. Interestingly, the person who provided arms and the individual who received them were unaware of each other’s identity, ensuring anonymity during the transaction. Two of the accused, Ram Kanojia and Bhagwant Singh, travelled to Udaipur to collect the weapons but were not informed about the individual supplying them.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang had claimed responsibility for the murder of Baba Siddique, adding a layer of complexity to the case.
Bishnoi is lodged in a Gujarat jail and allegedly operates his gang from behind bars.
Authorities in Maharashtra continue their search for additional suspects while piecing together the full extent of the planning and execution of the crime.
