The Invisible And The Damned

Rohingya refugees walk through water after crossing the border by boat through the Naf River in Teknaf, Bangladesh.

Dedicated to Rohingya refugees of Burma and refugees everywhere

You can look away now

No one left to be saved here

Fields in flame, smoking homes

And bodies everywhere

Nothing left standing or living

Not a thing worth living

It’s all ov’r now

Almost!

We the invisible and the damned

The discarded, ravaged and raped

Have long ceased to exist

This land, the sky and these fields,

home since time immemorial,

For as long as we can remember

Aren’t ours anymore

We belong here no more

Children of a lesser god

Stuck in the netherworld of nations and borders

We exist no more

We the invisible and the damned

Are all but a dead statistic on the world’s conscience

We exist no more

For the blessed world

With all its fine, empty words

and wringing hands.

You can look away now

No one left to be saved here

Nothing left standing or living

Not a thing worth living

It’s all ov’r now

You can look away now
