The Conundrum of Colours — Badri Raina

BADRI RAINA | Caravan Daily

These are the days of renaming

Streets, monuments, traditions,

Of securing the realm by extending

the definition of seditions.

Now Holi presents a conundrum

Of great perplexity;

Its multi-coloured madness betokens

A medieval conspiracy

Surly some bearded invader

Besmirched its Hindutva sheen

By contaminating the saffron

With red, blue, and a seditious green.

A great conclave is underway

To make some colours duller,

Since any who is a patriot knows

The realm has but one colour.

There are those who will insist

That colours are prettier than colour;

Which is why we need to build

Many a dungeon and cellar.
