The vandals damaged the shrine before the Braj Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra; police and local Muslims’ calm response help stop any serious conflict
NEW DELHI — In the Nuh district of Haryana, trouble broke out just before the Braj Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra when a mob vandalised a dargah in Tawdu town.
The incident happened on Monday (14 July) at a historic religious site on Mohmadpur-Ahir Sarai road, which is built on Waqf Board land. Local Muslims have been performing religious ceremonies here for many years with respect and devotion.
The news of the damage caused alarm in the area. As soon as the police and district administration were informed, they acted quickly. A large police force arrived at the site immediately to control the situation.
DSP Devendra Singh said, “We will soon identify and arrest the troublemakers behind this act.” He added that senior officers are monitoring the situation closely, and the Mohmadpur-Ahir police station is investigating the matter thoroughly.
The district administration urged citizens to trust only official information and avoid spreading rumours. Tawdu’s SDM Jitendra Garg, DSP Devendra Singh, and police officers Rakesh Kumar and Sheesh Ram were present at the site with a strong police presence.
Before this incident, internet and mobile services were suspended in Nuh to stop false news and rumours from spreading via social media. Dr Smita Mishra, Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, ordered the suspension to help maintain law and order.
Last year, during the same yatra on 31 July 2023, violence broke out in Nuh, leaving five people dead and many injured. This year, the government and police have taken strict measures to prevent such incidents.
One official said, “Mobile internet and network were blocked to stop wrong information being spread through WhatsApp, Facebook, and other platforms.”
Thanks to quick police action and the calm approach of local Muslims, the situation remained under control, and no major trouble occurred.
