MUMBAI – Tension flared in the Nayangar area of the city as Mira Road police seized four vehicles and arrested three individuals amidst allegations from Bajrang Dal and RSS workers that the vehicles were transporting beef. The incident, which unfolded on Tuesday afternoon, prompted a gathering of the members of right-wing organisations at the police post near Al-Shams Jamia Masjid. The protestors accused the police of collusion.

According to reports, Bajrang Dal workers claimed to have received information about alleged beef transportation in tempos on the back lane of Mira Road. Subsequently, they intercepted and attacked the vehicles, and alleged that the tempo drivers assaulted them. Police intervened swiftly, seizing the vehicles and detaining the suspects.

Former BJP MLA Narendra Mehta criticised the police, alleging complicity with the accused: “Some people were carrying beef. Four out of six vehicles have been seized. How is beef being brought despite strict security? Is there police complicity in this?”

Local MLA Geeta Jain echoed similar concerns, questioning the influx of vehicles transporting large animal meat: “Is there police collusion? Our workers were threatened in front of the police. This erodes public confidence in the administration.”

Deputy Police Commissioner Gaikwad addressed the media, clarifying the police actions: “Upon receiving information, we seized four vehicles and detained three persons. The meat sample has been sent to the laboratory for testing. We can comment only after receiving the laboratory report.”

The incident has sparked tensions in the area, with demands from saffron organisations for stringent action against those involved and concerns over the administration’s handling of the situation. Authorities are awaiting the laboratory report to ascertain the nature of the seized meat.
