UP Police investigation exposes the operation to supply arms to sow seeds of discord; police monitor inflammatory social media posts threatening communal harmony.

GHAZIABAD — In a major operation to safeguard public security and prevent communal unrest, Ghaziabad Police have arrested 10 individuals involved in distributing weapons under the banner of the Hindu Raksha Dal. The action comes after videos circulating on social media allegedly showed members distributing swords and other arms in the Shalimar Garden area.

A police case has been registered against 16 named individuals and 25–30 unidentified persons.

According to ACP Shalimar Garden, Atul Kumar Singh, the investigation began after the police received credible information from social media sources. “Upon receiving the information, the police team collected evidence and immediately addressed this activity that threatened law and order,” ACP Singh stated. “The investigation revealed that weapons were being openly displayed and distributed, a clear violation of the law. Based on this, a case was registered against 16 named individuals and 25 to 30 unidentified individuals. We have acted swiftly and have arrested 10 accused so far.”

The operation, which aimed to prevent communal tensions, also targeted the potential misuse of social media to incite violence. ACP Singh added, “Any attempt to disrupt law and order or create an atmosphere of fear in society will not be tolerated. The remaining accused are being identified and will be arrested soon. Those promoting inflammatory activities through social media are being monitored, and strict action will be taken if investigations reveal intentional incitement.”

Local residents expressed relief at the police intervention. A shop owner in Shalimar Garden said, “It is frightening when groups go around handing out weapons. We are glad the police acted quickly before anything serious happened. Everyone in the community deserves to live safely without fear.”

Security analysts note that such activities, if unchecked, could have escalated into serious communal incidents, particularly affecting minority communities in the region. “The distribution of weapons in public spaces creates a direct threat to peaceful communities,” said a legal expert familiar with communal laws in Uttar Pradesh. “Swift police action sends a strong message that attempts to provoke fear or violence will face the full force of the law.”

This crackdown highlights the increasing role of social media in spreading provocative material and the necessity for law enforcement to respond proactively. ACP Singh reiterated, “We are keeping a close watch on social media platforms. If anyone is found circulating such videos or encouraging people to take up arms, they will be dealt with under the law.”

The arrested individuals are currently in police custody, with further investigations underway to uncover the full network of the arms distribution and any connections to larger organised groups. Police have appealed to citizens to report suspicious activities and remain vigilant to prevent communal disturbances.

As Ghaziabad authorities continue their investigation, the swift action taken in Shalimar Garden serves as a clear reminder that public safety and communal harmony are being prioritised. For minority communities, including Muslims in the area, this intervention provides reassurance that law enforcement is actively working to prevent threats and maintain peace.
