HYDERABAD — Several people were injured on Saturday after a Hindutva mob attacked a madrasa and its functionaries and vandalised properties belonging to Muslims when cattle were brought for the sacrifice in Telangana’s Medak town.

All India Muslim Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA Kausar Mohiuddin said that a mob from the RSS and Hindu Yuva Vahini created ruckus when they saw cattle that were brought for the sacrifice. Then, the madrasa authorities informed the local police. The police came and sent the cattle to their place. Later, people from Hindutva groups gathered in large numbers and attacked the madrasa.

According to Mohiuddin, several people including the madrasa officials got seriously injured. The hand and leg of Mohammed Arif, who is the chairman of the madras, was fractured.

When the injured people were admitted to a local hospital, mobs surrounded the hospital and attacked it.

Then, mobs took to streets forcing the shopkeepers to shut down their shops while attacking members of the Muslims community and vandalising properties.

In a video, the victims can be heard saying that mobs armed with sticks and swords are roaming and attacking people in the town. But, the police did not intervene even though the police station was nearby.

Following the violence, AIMIM chief Asauddin Owaisi spoke to Telangana DGP Ravi Gupta and other senior police officers demanding serious action against the culprits.

However the situation was brought under control later after the police reportedly lathicharged the mob and section 144 was imposed in the town.

Speaking to the media persons, SP Bala Swamy said that tension prevailed in Medak as clashes took place between two communities at three different locations. “Initially, violence sprouted up at a place where ‘Ox’ were being sold for sacrifice on the occasion of Bakri Eid. This was followed by a scuffle in two different locations,” he said.

“The police said that the situation is under control for now. Cases have been registered against both groups and to identify others involved in the violence, the police are examining the video footage,” the SP said.

The police have arrested BJP Medak district president Gaddam Srinivas, BJP Medak town president M. Nayam Prasad, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha President, and seven others in connection with the violence in Medak.

Video of the incidents which have gone viral shows that the BJP leaders also took part in the march being taken out by Hindutva mobs.

Dr. Naveen of Orthopaedic Hospital Medak recounted that he was treating an injured patient Arif Samdani, when a mob of 150 to 200 people, identified as BJP and BJYM workers, attacked the hospital and damaged a doctor’s car. “We don’t know who is Muslim and who is Hindu; we are here to serve people. Such behaviour is unacceptable,” Naveen said.

Meanwhile, Student Islamic Organisation (SIO) has condemned the violence and called for immediate and stern action against the perpetrators.

The organization emphasized the need to restore peace and security in the town swiftly.

“We demand justice for Victims and strict action against those responsible for this heinous act. The authorities must take necessary steps to ensure such incidents do not recur,” stated an SIO representative.
