NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits mosques in Gulf countries and supports the people who incite violence against Muslims in India, former deputy chief minister of Bihar and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader, Tejashwi Yadav, has said.

Yadav’s comments came in response to the inflammatory statements made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (MLA) from Maharashtra, Nitesh Rana, threatening to kill Muslims after finding them in their mosques. A video of his statement has gone viral on social media.

“I’m going to give this threat in the language which you understand. If you have done anything against our Ramgiri Maharaj, we will kill you after barging into your mosques. You must remember this threat. You have concerns about your community, you will not speak up anything against Ramgiri Maharaj. I will not allow the tongue to exist,” said Rane at public rallies in his state on Sunday.

Muslims in the state have held protests demanding the arrest of Maharaj after his blasphemous remarks against Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Denouncing the provocative remarks of Rane, Yadav said the person who is spewing venom against the countrymen “is the son of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s favourite senior colleague and BJP MP Narayan Rane. This BJP MLA is flouting the constitution and law and is threatening to kill Muslims by entering mosques. Prime Minister Narendra Modi goes to Gulf countries and offers prayers, and visits mosques. He talks about Gandhi and Buddha abroad but gives shelter, credit and praise to those who incite violence in their own country and threaten to kill their own people in BJP-ruled states. Is this not a double standard of the prime minister?”

Yadav further asked: “Will the prime minister forgive him wholeheartedly or will he reward him by giving him a BJP ticket? On the one hand, the BJP targets Muslims by spreading hatred in society through its organisation and public representatives, while on the other, BJP/RSS plots to spread confusion and divide through its sponsored agents. The NDA government at the Centre is extremely harmful and dangerous for the country, constitution, equality and harmony.”

Describing the BJP MLA’s remarks as “brazen hate” and “incitement to violence”, prominent journalist and anchor Rajdeep Sardesai said that Rane should not be in the assembly but in jail.

“Most brazen hate and incitement to violence speech imaginable by BJP MLA Nitesh Rane in Ahmednagar. Two FIRs were filed. His place is not in assembly but in jail. Where does this impunity to say whatever, you will come from?,” asked Sardesai.

Rane’s threat to kill is the latest in a series of his hate speeches targeting Muslims in the state. Two FIRs were registered against him on Monday for delivering provocative speeches in Srirampur and Topkhana police jurisdiction of Ahmednagar district, Ahmednagar police informed

Rane took part in the Sakal Hindu Samaj agitation in Ahmednagar and speeches were a part of the event.
