NEW DELHI — Just a day after a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against him in Bangalore, T. Raja Singh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s suspended Telangana MLA, has again engaged in his favourite pastime of delivering venomous anti-Muslim diatribe.
Hindutva Watch, a research initiative which tracks hate crimes in India, on Thursday posted a video on its X platform (formerly Twitter) handle wherein Singh can be seen calling for violence against Muslims.
Addressing a gathering in Gujarat’s Surat on Thursday, Singh asked the audience what they would do if any non-Hindus enter the place where he was making the speech. Some people responded that they would slaughter them.
Singh also asked about the people accused of engaging in “Love Jihad” (conspiracy theory). The audience responded by claiming that they would also be slaughtered.
Singh also boasted that the time will soon come when the “blot” of Kashi and Mathura will be removed the way it was done in Ayodhya to build the Ram temple.
He also vowed not to allow a single anti-Hindu people live. All those involved in “Love Jihad” will be wiped out, he said.
At another event in Surat, Singh incited Hindutva supporters to beat up “vidharami” (non-Hindus) if they enter into the Garba events.
Based on a complaint filed by Bangalore-based Law and Policy Research Institute, Singh was booked by the city police on Wednesday for making a hate speech in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara.
The police filed the FIR charging Singh under various sections of the IT Act and under IPC Sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 509 (uttering any word or making any gesture intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 153B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national-integration), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 298 (intentionally hurting someone’s religious feelings by words, sounds, gestures), and 505(2) (the dissemination of a rumour or unsettling news about a religion, race, language).
In recent months, Singh, notorious for making hate speeches against Muslims and other minorities, often participated in events in different parts of the country and called for violence against the minorities. He has been booked in some cases but not arrested in any of them.
According to a report published by The News Minute, there are 101 cases against him but he has not been convicted in any case.
“While the Hyderabad police stated that BJP MLA Raja Singh has 101 cases against him, out of which 18 are communal in nature, the fact is that so far he has not yet been convicted in a single hate speech case,” said the report.
