Seven-month pregnant Rukhsar says the medical college employee demanded money, abused her family and kicked her stomach during a check-up in Kanpur Dehat
KANPUR DEHAT — A shocking case of alleged violence against a pregnant Muslim woman inside a government medical college in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur Dehat District has caused anger and fear among local residents, with serious concerns raised over patient safety and conduct inside public hospitals.
Rukhsar, seven months pregnant, had gone to Akbarpur Medical College on Monday (December 15) for her routine health check-up. She alleges that Rohit Yadav, an employee working at the medical college, demanded ₹500 from her during the visit.
Speaking to reporters, Rukhsar said, “I had come only for my regular check-up. He asked for money. We are poor and could not pay.”
Her husband, Usman, also present at the hospital, refused to give the money. Rukhsar stated that the refusal angered the accused, who then began abusing her verbally. “My husband was beaten in front of me. He took ₹340 from my husband’s pocket by force,” she said.
The situation turned more disturbing when the couple protested. According to the complaint, Rohit Yadav then kicked Rukhsar in her stomach, causing her to fall on the ground.
“I fell down and could not get up for nearly ten minutes. I was crying and begging for help. I am scared for my unborn child,” Rukhsar said, her voice shaking.
She added that the attack caused her both physical pain and mental trauma. Other patients and attendants present at the hospital reportedly watched in silence.
Usman said, “This happened inside a medical college. If a pregnant woman is not safe here, where will she go?”
Following the incident, Rukhsar submitted a written complaint at the Akbarpur police station, clearly naming the accused and describing the assault. The family alleged that no immediate action was taken by the police after the complaint was filed.
“They listened to us, but nothing happened that day. We kept waiting,” Usman said.
The matter gained attention after news of the assault spread locally. Uttar Pradesh Minister of State Pratibha Shukla visited the area and met the victim. After her visit, Rukhsar was sent for a medical examination.
Pratibha Shukla said, “The matter is serious. A proper inquiry will be carried out and action will follow based on the findings.”
Police officials later confirmed that an investigation is now underway. A senior officer at Akbarpur police station said, “We have received the complaint and are looking into all aspects of the case.”
For the family, the wait continues. Rukhsar said her only demand is justice. “I want action so that no other woman faces this. I went for treatment, not to be beaten.”
The case has once again highlighted fears among Muslims about safety, dignity, and equal treatment, even inside government hospitals meant to protect life.
