Court says strong evidence found against suspects; charge sheet of 250 pages submitted by police
BEED, Maharashtra – The Special UAPA Court in Beed has rejected the bail applications of Vijay Gavane and Shri Ram Sagale, who were arrested for their alleged involvement in the explosion at Mecca Masjid in Ardhamsala village. The incident took place in the early hours of March 30, 2025.
The Beed Police has filed a detailed charge sheet of around 250 pages in the case. The court dismissed the bail applications after hearing arguments from both sides.
Speaking to the Clarion India, defence lawyer and former public prosecutor Syed Azhar Ali said, “In the bail plea, the suspects claimed that they were arrested on the basis of suspicion and had no role in the incident.” However, the court did not agree with this claim.
Public prosecutor B.S. Rakh and Syed Azhar Ali, who also opposed the bail, told the court that there was strong evidence of the suspects’ involvement. “Equipment and motorcycles used to make gelatin sticks were recovered from the locations connected to the suspects,” said the prosecution.
A case has been registered at Talora Police Station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Explosives Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) based on a complaint by Rashid Ali Hussain Syed.
According to police records, on March 29, a peaceful procession of the sandals of Syed Badshah Ali took place in the village. Both Hindus and Muslims took part in the event. During the procession, Gavane and Sagale reportedly confronted local Muslims and accused them of building a new mosque.
However, villagers clarified that the mosque, named Mecca Masjid, was only being renovated and not newly built. The matter was calmed down at that time.
Later that night, between 2 and 3 am, Gavane and Sagale allegedly prepared explosives using gelatin sticks and threw them into the mosque, causing a loud explosion. The blast shocked nearby residents, some of whom, including a man named Syed Mazhar, witnessed the two fleeing the scene.
Further evidence was found on Gavane’s social media, where he had posted a video with gelatin sticks, believed to be linked to the same incident.
Advocate Azhar Ali was supported in the case by a legal team including Advocates Sheikh Sadiq, Azim, Syed Zohaib, Aslam, Waseem, and others.
