New Delhi – Amidst the growing hustle bustle of election in Uttar Pradesh, a report created a flutter in the political circles. A local leader of Samajwadi Party has been murdered in cold blood in Balrampur district of the state.
Khan was former president of Tulsipur Nagar Panchayat.
Reports said some unidentified assailants killed the SP leader by slitting his throat with a sharp weapon. The incident took place at around 11 PM on Tuesday.
In view soaring tensions over the murder, deployment of security forces has been escalated in the area to meet any eventuality.
According to reports, Firoz Khan was on his way home on Karwa Road from Lucknow when he was waylaid by the assailants. After being repeatedly attacked by sharp-edged weapons he succumbed to his injuries in front of his house.
Villagers rushed him to a local health centre where doctors declared him brought dead.
The police have filed a case and are on the lookout for Khan’s killers. A team has been constituted to investigate the murder as it came at a time when a highly polarised election campaign is going on in the state.
Khan’s wife Kehkeshan is currently holding the post of president of the nagar panchayat of the area.
