LAHORE — Six brothers married six sisters in a single ceremony in the Punjab province of Pakistan, with the intent of displaying simplicity and unity.

The ceremony was attended by over 100 guests. Doing away with extravagance and lavish tradition, the wedding was done on a small scale.

The brothers spent over a year planning the wedding. They waited for the youngest sibling to become an adult so that all six couples could tie the knot on the same day.

The grooms, highlighting that Islam encourages modesty and simplicity in marriage, wished to set an example for others. “We observed that people often sell their land or take loans to cover wedding expenses,” said the eldest brother. “We wanted to show that marriages can be joyous and meaningful without imposing financial burdens on families,” according to a report by The Khaama Press.

The grooms refused to accept any dowry from the brides families, challenging societal norms.

Rooted in simplicity, the wedding laid greater emphasis on meaningful connection and prioritised values over materialism. The wedding not only celebrated the union of six couples but also serves as hope for those struggling under the weight of societal expectations.
