GAZA — According to new satellite images, more than 1,500 buildings have been destroyed by Israel since the ceasefire took effect on October 10, violating the truce which stated to suspend “all military operations”.
The satellite images reviewed by BBC Verify, the latest of which was taken on 8 November, show that entire neighbourhoods controlled by the Israeli military have been levelled in less than a month, apparently through demolitions, with the actual number of destroyed buildings could be significantly higher.
The BBC Verify confirmed that the destruction of buildings in Gaza by the Israeli military has been continuing on a huge scale, violating the ceasefire signed with Hamas which stated “all military operations, including aerial and artillery bombardment, will be suspended”.
According to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, nearly all of the Gaza Strip’s residents have been displaced.
Following the start of the ceasefire, many families tried to return to their homes, most to find only rubble. However, according to the UN Satellite Centre, around 81% of all structures are damaged.
UNRWA said 61 million tonnes of debris now cover Gaza and entire neighbourhoods have been erased. It said families were searching the ruins for shelter.
Israel has violated the ceasefire agreement at least 282 times from October 10 to November 10, through the continuation of attacks by air, artillery and direct shootings, the Government Media Office in Gaza said on Tuesday. Israel has also continued to block vital humanitarian aid and destroy homes and infrastructure across the Strip. — QNN
