HYDERABAD — Unhappy over not being inducted in the state cabinet in recent expansion, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MLA Shakeel Aamir Mohammed is likely to quit the party to join BJP.
According to the Times of India report, the TRS MLA from Bodhan assembly constituency in the Nizamabad district of Telangana met Nizamabad BJP MP Arvind Dharmapuri at his residence on Hyderabad on Thursday.
The state cabinet has got only one minority minister, Mohd Mahmood Ali, who is member of Legislative Council (MLC) and is said to be a close aide of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
Confirming his meeting with BJP Member of Parliament Arvind Dharmapuri, Shakeel Ahmed opened his heart to the Times of India saying that though he is the only minority MLA from TRS, he was not considered for the ministerial berth.
“I got elected as MLA twice from the same constituency despite the fact there was a BJP wave across the state especially in Nizamabad district. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, former MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha, who is daughter of chief minister K Chandrasekhar, got a majority in Bodhan assembly constituency. Despite that my services were not recognized,” he reportedly said.
The TRS MLA clarified that there was no invitation from the BJP, he voluntarily met Nizamabad MP and added, “When gross injustice is done to me and there is no political future in the TRS, I am thinking whether to continue in the party or not. However, I have not taken any final decision.”
Shakeel Ahmed, if he joins BJP, will be the first sitting MLA to quit the TRS and join the other party. The BJP as such is keen to concentrate how to strengthen its roots in Telangana after getting 4 MPs elected from the state.
