NEW DELHI — Karnataka-based Shaheen Group of Institutions has opened its new branch, Shaheen Academy, for the aspirants of medical and IIT-JEE in New Delhi’s Jamia Nagar. It functions as a coaching center for three courses – Medical, NEET, and IIT-JEE (Main and Advanced), which was inaugurated by Aam Aadmi (AAP) Party leader Atishi Marlena, and Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan, on Wednesday.
According to the academic director Er. Waseem Javed, this is the 42nd branch of the Shaheen Group of Institutions. The branch will offer a 2-year program for 11th standard students on medical courses, a one-year program for 12th standard students for the preparation of NEET and another 2-year program for 11th standard students for the preparation of IIT-JEE exams. The admission process for the coaching center starts from 15 June and the first year doesn’t involve any interview or test for getting admitted, although the following year will have a test for the same.
The branch boasts of having 8 fully functional faculties, all of them being IITians, and can provide services for 300 students at once. It even claims to provide facilities and infrastructure at par with international standards, namely, air-conditioned, spacious classrooms with modern furniture, digital boards and projectors, A/C and non-A/C accommodation with Islamic environment, 24X7 security and special classes for academic excellence and Improvement.
There will be a yearly charge of around Rs. 95,000 per student for each course, which is roughly 40% less than the fees of other coaching centers based in Delhi. According to Javed, this is a special policy of his to make it more accessible in terms of affordability, in comparison to other coaching centers. There is also 10% special concession for girls in fees. Not to mention, if a student scores well and above 80%, he/she is also given an additional scholarship.
“The main purpose of this institution is to serve and help the Muslim community. This is a non-profit company, and not meant for revenue generation. The revenue generated from this institution is spent on and for those with meagre means. For instance, 5000 students have been provided with free education by the Shaheen Group of Institutions all over the country,” Javed.
Although his institution mainly focuses on the Muslim community, students belonging from the non-Muslim community are also equally welcomed. It needs to be taken into account that in its Karnataka’s institutions, more than 50% of the students are from the non-Muslim community.
“In IIT, Muslims are less than 2.5 per cent while our overall population in the country is more than 15 per cent. We shouldn’t be a burden for the government to bear. One must try to fly even when there are no wings, and similarly, we must work hard for this. Then, I firmly believe that we will be able to go from 2.5 to 15 and maybe even 20 per cent,” said Javed.
