SFI Condemns Attack on Students at Pro-Palestine Event in Hyderabad

ABVP and Hyderabad Police accused of orchestrating the brutal assault on students of the English and Foreign Languages University

NEW DELHI — The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has strongly condemned what it described as a “brutal attack” on students of the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) in Hyderabad, by members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the state police. The students were expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people in an event at the university.

According to SFI, the violence took place during a student union programme against “the Israeli genocide.” The federation alleged that ABVP members “unleashed brutal violence” on participants, and that the Hyderabad Police “joined the ABVP to protect them and brutally attacked the students.”

Calling it “an attack on the democratic rights of students,” the SFI’s Central Executive Committee demanded strict legal action against those responsible. The statement also urged the Congress government in Telangana to clarify its stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict and explain “the alignment of the state police with Sangh Parivar organisations.”

Reaffirming its commitment to resist communal forces on campuses, the SFI announced that this week it will hold 18,000 demonstrations across India starting Wednesday (October 8) in solidarity with Palestine, “remembering the 18,000 children killed in Gaza.”
