NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday refused to give an urgent hearing to a mentioning by BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy who had sought a direction to perform puja at the site in Ayodhya.
The apex court bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra asked him to come in July.
“Today I made a mention of my WP (writ petition) on Ram Mandir issue and my fundamental right to pray. The CJI said, ‘We are not hearing other matter for now.’ I said ‘Then I shall wait till the Registry informs me?’ CJI replied: ‘No. You mention in July for listing’. Good enough for me,” tweeted Swamy.
The apex court is seized with the decades-old title suit related to Babri Masjid in Ayodhya town of Uttar Pradesh. Hindu rights group claim the place where the mosque once stood is the birthplace of Rama. The 15th Century was razed to the ground by a Hindu mob on 6th December 1992 defying the Supreme Court order for its protection. Soon after the demolition, a make-shift Ram temple was erected at the debris of the mosque.
