RIYADH — Amid fears of coronavirus spread Saudi Arabia on Wednesday suspended the  umrah pilgrimage to the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah, the interior ministry said.

According to official Saudi Press Agency, the kingdom has decided “to suspend umrah temporarily for citizens and residents in the kingdom”.

Saudi Arabia last week suspended visas for the pilgrimage and barred citizens from the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council from entering two holiest cities. Now citizens and residents of the country have also been barred.
