NEW DELHI – The Samajwadi Party (SP) has pledged to launch street protests against the contentious Waqf Amendment Bill, with its MP Anand Bhadoria openly challenging the government and accusing it of ignoring opposition concerns.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, the Lok Sabha MP from Dhaurahra Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government intends to “give the priceless land of Waqf to its business friends.” He asserted, “We have opposed this bill from day one. The BJP is eyeing Waqf land with greed, and we will stand firmly with Muslim organisations in protest.”

The MP alleged that suggestions from opposition members in the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) were disregarded. “Our party demands that all amendments proposed by the opposition be accepted. This bill is unjust,” he said.

Bhadoria confirmed that SP chief Akhilesh Yadav will voice the party’s objections when the bill is presented in Parliament on Wednesday. “If needed, we will not hesitate to take to the streets,” he warned.

The government, however, dismissed the allegations, insisting the bill aims to empower Muslim women and marginalised Pasmanda Muslims. A senior minister, speaking anonymously, said, “The opposition is politicising welfare reforms. This bill is about justice, not land grabs.”
