During a spirited rally in Powakhali, Kishanganj, she emphasises the importance of consolidated votes for the Grand Alliance
KISHANGANJ – In the midst of the heated Bihar election, Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Iqra Hasan from Kairana in Uttar Pradesh, held a large public meeting in Powakhali, Kishanganj, on Tuesday, rallying support for Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate Saud Alam. Her visit comes as political leaders from across the country intensify campaigning for the first phase of voting, scheduled for 6 November.
Addressing a packed crowd, Iqra Hasan strongly urged voters to unite behind the Grand Alliance candidate, warning against dividing votes, a point she clarified had nothing to do with a statement attributed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
“Before casting your vote, consider whether parties like the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) can form a government,” Iqra Hasan said. “They won’t even come close to forming a government. If we vote for them, our votes will be divided, and if our votes are divided, the Bharatiya Janata Party will form the government again.”
She further stressed the high stakes for the electorate, saying, “This BJP won’t even make Nitish Kumar the chief minister. This time, they will seize the CM seat themselves. In such a situation, your current situation will become even worse.”
Iqra Hasan’s rally was clearly aimed at galvanising Muslim voters and others who traditionally support the Grand Alliance. She appealed directly to the people of Kishanganj to be cautious and vote wisely.
“This time in Bihar, you have to be vigilant and protect yourself. The easiest way to do this is your own vote,” she emphasised. “You must not be divided. You must unite and give every single vote to your candidate, Saud Alam, and the lantern. I hope the people here will make the right decision.”
The MP’s statements were reportedly misinterpreted on social media, with some claiming she had echoed Yogi Adityanath’s alleged words, “If we divide, we will divide.” However, a careful review of her speech confirms that Iqra Hasan’s message focused entirely on preventing vote division within the Grand Alliance to avoid handing victory to the BJP.
Political analysts observing the Kishanganj rally noted that her clear message resonated with voters who are anxious about political polarisation in Bihar. “Iqra Hasan made it very clear that her appeal is about unity for the Grand Alliance, and it has nothing to do with Yogi Adityanath,” said political commentator Ramesh Prasad.
As campaigning enters its final day for the first phase of voting, the Grand Alliance, including the RJD, SP, and other supportive parties, is leaving no stone unturned in consolidating their voter base, particularly among Muslim communities. Iqra Hasan’s Kishanganj rally exemplifies this concerted effort to maintain a united front.
