NEW DELHI — Punjab is grappling with severe flooding, which has left thousands struggling for basic necessities. Witnessing this crisis, Muslims from various parts of the country are stepping forward to provide relief, with the community in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, taking a leading role.

A convoy of 10 pickup trucks carrying relief materials was dispatched from Jamia Rehmat Khagar Wali (Arabic College) in Saharanpur to assist the affected residents in Punjab. The convoy included a medical team of 57 people, all led by Dr Maulana Abdul Malik Mugisi, chief of the Jamia and National Convenor of the Youth Organisation of the National Council.

Speaking to the media before departure for Punjab, Dr Maulana Abdul Malik Mugisi said, “The relief material includes food kits worth lakhs of rupees, medicines, tarpaulins, umbrellas, batteries, and other essential items. These have all been generously donated by people from the rural areas of Saharanpur district.”

The donations came from a wide range of villages, including Ghaggar Wali, Panchi, Pathanpura, Lodipur, Siduli Kadim, Batoli Bhojpur, Dekora, Rasoolpur, Todarpur, Dhabera Kalan, Tarfoh, Nadrana, Marwa, Rogla, Nainoli Gahmalpur, Dudhgarh, Alanpur Gandiyar, Margah, Naushera, Jandhiri, Dhola Hetri, and Bir Kheri.

On the humanitarian spirit behind this effort, Dr Mugisi remarked, “This noble work has been done under social and religious sentiments. Our aim is to ensure that these goods reach those who need them, regardless of religion.”

He added that relief work would continue: “If Allah allows, we will continue our efforts to send more goods to the affected areas. Recently, we held a consultative meeting with officials from nearby rural areas here at Jamia Rehmat, and the decision was taken collectively to send aid.”

The response from Saharanpur Muslims has been widely appreciated, showcasing the solidarity of the community during times of crisis. Residents of Punjab have expressed gratitude, with many acknowledging the timely assistance that has helped families cope with the devastation caused by the floods.

This initiative by Saharanpur Muslims reflects a larger trend of Indian Muslim communities coming together to assist flood-affected people across Punjab, demonstrating compassion and a commitment to humanitarian values in times of natural disaster.
