NEW DELHI — The educational qualification of the newly inducted minister of state for home affairs, Nisith Pramanik, has come under scanner as the wire has reported that he has provided contradictory information in his election affidavits.

Deputy to powerful Home Minister Amit Shah, Nisith Pramanik, mentioned that he has just studied upto Madhyamik Pariksha or secondary exam as his highest educational qualification in his affidavits filed at the time 2019 Lok Sabha election and 2021 West Bengal assembly elections. However, his profile on Lok Sabha official website says he has done three-year Bachelors in Computer Applications or BCA at Balakura Junior Basic School.

Trinamool congress leaders have pointed out the discrepancy and raked up a debate on the issue.

In March, his highest educational qualification was to have appeared in the secondary exam – he did not clarify in his affidavit if he passed the exam. And now, in July, he has a bachelor’s degree! How can one have a bachelor’s degree without having passed the higher secondary exam?” asked former TMC MLA Udayan Guha, whom Pramanik defeated from Dinhata assembly seat by a narrow margin of 57 votes, according to the Wire.

According to Guha, the school mentioned by Pramanik is a non-descript junior school upto class 5.

Trinamul Congress West Bengal’s Cooch Behar district president Partha Pratim Roy shared screenshots of an affidavit filed by Pramanik, the youngest minister in the Modi’s council of ministers, before the Election Commission of India, and another from the Lok Sabha website, according to media reports.

Pramanik was upto 2018 associated with TMC when he was expelled and moved to BJP where he successfully fought both parliament and assembly elections. There was speculation that TMC had been late trying to win him back so he had been camping in Delhi meeting the national BJP leaders.

On Wednesday, he was given the role of deputy of Home Minister Amit Shah, one of the most powerful figures in  the Modi government and the BJP.

According to Wire, Pramanik had mentioned 11 criminal cases against him in his 2019 affidavit and 13 cases in a 2021 affidavit, including charges of murder, dacoity, theft, and possession of explosives.
