PATNA – Rashtriya Janata Dal leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Tejashwi Yadav on Friday demanded Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to step down if he is not able to check the rise in incidents of mob lynching in the state.

Reacting over the brutal mob assault of two Muslim men for allegedly carrying meat in Rohtas district, leading to communal clashes, Tejashwi on Friday tweeted: “Again in My Bihar…Nitish Ji, What herculean task you are engaged with? Either Stop this nonsense or Step down…You can’t enjoy all the luxuries at the same time. Is this Why you betrayed the Mandate of 11 Crore Bihari’s in broad daylight?”

The incident occurred on Wednesday. As per media reports, a clash erupted between members of two communities in Rohtas after two motorcyclists were thrashed by a mob for carrying meat.

According to Sub Divisional Police Officer, Dehri, Mohd Anwar Javed Ansari, the trouble began when a crowd stopped the two motorcyclists in Akodhigola locality, while they were carrying meat for sale in Nasriganj area. The motorcycle-borne youths – Noor Mohammad and Mohammad Shakeel – were severely thrashed and their vehicle was damaged by the mob, the SDPO said in a statement. A police party rushed to the spot, took the two youths to a hospital and seized the damaged motorcycle, reported PTI news agency.

There has been sudden rise in the incidents of mob lynching in Bihar.

On 7th September, three people were lynched in Begusarai district for allegedly trying to kidnap a girl from school.

On 11th September, a 30-year-old man was lynched by a mob in Rohtas district after he allegedly tried to loot around Rs 35 lakh from a railway official.

Since Nitish returned to the fold of BJP-led NDA in July 2017 after ditching the RJD-JDU-Congress alliance and forming new government with BJP, there has been rise in incidents of communal clashes and lynching in the state.
