LUCKNOW — Eminent civil rights group Rihai Manch, in collaboration with several other civil and human rights organisations, has kicked off a statewide Yatra for Constitution, Democracy, Equality and Brotherhood in Uttar Pradesh.

The first leg of the Yatra was flagged off here on Thursday. It will cover prominent districts in eastern Uttar Pradesh, including Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Varanasi, Allahabad and Raibareilly. This leg will conclude on 5th September.

In each districts, the peace and human rights activists are holding public meetings and press conferences. They are also visiting the families of those killed in fake encounters in the last one and half years in the state. They are also meeting victim families of Dalits and Muslims whose dear ones are in jail under NSA in connection with caste or communal violence.

UP Yatra welcomed and press conference held in Junpur.

On Saturday, the Yatra reached Jaunpur where it received grand welcome from the local residents.

“Since last year, people are facing huge difficulty in filing FIR in connection with violence with Dalits and culprits are not being arrested even after serious cases,” said Rajeev Yadav, General Secretary of Rihai Manch.

“Atrocities on Dalits and Muslims are on peak in Jaunpur and fascist elements are emboldened as they are getting support from the present government”, said Yadav.
