READY TO PAY POLITICAL PRICE FOR MY GOVT’S STEPS, SAYS MODI; HAS HE SMELT DEFEAT IN GUJARAT?

Date:

Straight from Gujarat where he addressed about a dozen election rallies in three days, why did Prime Minister Narendra Modi state at a media house conclave in Delhi that he is ready to pay political price for the steps taken by his government? Has he smelt defeat in the air of Gujarat?

NEW DELHI — “I am aware of the political price I will have to pay for the steps taken by the government but I am ready for it,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the inaugural session of the 15th edition of the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit at the national capital on Thursday.
Modi was referring to demonetization and GST (Goods and Services Tax) implementation, two back to back big decisions taken by his government in a year, which has antagonized both the business community and common man of Gujarat and other Indian states.
He, however, reiterated, that “Creating a corruption-free, citizen centric and development-friendly eco system in India”, is the “top-most priority” of his government.
Modi was in Delhi, straight from his home state Gujarat, where in the last three days he has addressed a dozen-odd election rallies, which, the Opposition and a section of media claimed, were poorly attended.

In the election rallies, he spent most of time targeting Congress, its vice president, Rahul Gandhi and past leaders like Indira Gandhi. He was hardly seen talking about demonetization or GST.

On the other hand, massive crowds were seen at the election meetings of Patidar youth leader Hardik Patel. His community has long been demanding reservation. Hardik has inked a pre-election alliance with Congress, with the Grand Old Party of India promising to fulfil their demand.
