RANCHI: For the past one week, the state capital and other areas of Jharkhand have been in the news for wrong reasons – communal violence and clashes. The situation became tense in the capital city on Tuesday when news spread that head of an animal has been found inside a religious place of the majority community.

The incident occurred in Nagri area of the capital. Locals got enraged and when Muslim shopkeepers came to pen their shops Tuesday morning, some members of Bajrang Dal and Shiv Sena allegedly assaulted them. Then groups of both communities started pelting stones on each other.

The police later found that it was the head of an ox and it appeared it wasn’t part of a recently slaughtered animal.

To control the situation, the district administration deployed armed police force and anti-riot teams in the area.

On 7th June, an incident of communal violence took place in Hazaribagh town of Jharkhand allegedly over an objectionable Facebook post related to religious personality of the minority community. Stones were pelted and at least two bikes were set on fire.

On 10th June, BJP’s youth wing took out a march in Ranchi to celebrate four years of the central government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A group passed through an area raising provocative slogans, leading to clashes.

In the night on the same day, two cleric brothers were brutally assaulted when they were returning home after offering Travih prayers in the city. Maulana Azharul Islam and his brother Maulana Imran were returning after offering Travih prayers in Agru village. They were on a bike and riding towards their home in Naya Sarai village. It was round 10 PM when they were stopped by a group of people near Daladali Chowk. Hurling communal abuses at them, they started beating the two brothers.

Five people were arrested for assaulting the clerics.

Jharkhand is going to Assembly polls next year. In the recent by-polls, the ruling BJP has been defeated by the JMM.
