Ramadan, Month of Fasting, Starts on Sunday, June 29

ABU DHABI — The first of Ramadan will be on Sunday, June 29, 2014, according to the UAE Moon Sighting Committee, WAM reported.

Dr Hadef Jua’an Al Daheri, Minister of Justice, said after the committee’s meeting at the Judiciary Department in Abu Dhabi, that after contacting neighbouring countries and following all Sharia procedures to site the new crescent of Ramadan, the crescent was not seen on Friday night, hence, Saturday will be the completion of the month of Sha’aban and Sunday, June 29, 2014, will be the first day of Ramadan.

Dr. Al Daheri extended sincere greetings on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan,to President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, their brothers Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates, and General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

He also congratulated the people of the UAE and Muslims all across the globe.

Earlier the new moon was not sighted on Friday evening in Saudi Arabia either, according to the Saudi Supreme Court. Therefore, Sunday will be the first of Ramadan.
